VPS Hosting

If you own a website, using VPS hosting to make your site accessible online is the best move.

vps hosting australia

VPS hosting is awesome and there are so many companies to work with.

We looked at how virtual private servers differ from other hosting services, why you should utilize it, and some of the best names to work with.

What Is VPS Hosting?

There are three main hosting types. Everyone begins with shared hosting. It’s the cheapest option and is readily available. However, it’s not the best – your site would be slow. VPS hosting is much better, but something better than VPS hosting is dedicated hosting.

What exactly is hosting, though? It’s when you use a server from a third-party to make your website available on the internet. Shared hosting means sites from all over the world use the same server. They’d share the resources on it. If one of the sites gets heavy traffic, all those using the server would be affected. You can think of it as people living in an apartment.

VPS hosting is like owning an apartment in a complex full of people. You’ll all be in a server together, but you’ll be sanctioned off. In each area, you’ll get your own resources to thrive.

You can probably guess how dedicated hosting works – you get an entire server for yourself. Unfortunately, this option is quite expensive, especially in Australia. VPS hosting is beneficial and its shared counterpart is the cheapest option. At the end of the day, we think VPS hosting is the best as it’s cheaper, yet similar to how dedicated servers work.

Web hosts that provide VPS services are immense. You don’t want to work with just anybody as the features you get would differ. Quite a few people work with small names and get scammed. That’s why we ran through some of the best out there.

We especially like HostPapa. The web service offers 4 virtual private server hosting plans. Here are their prices:

  • Mercury – AUD 28.2
  • Venus – AUD 84.5
  • Earth – AUD 155.1
  • Mars – AUD 239.8
  • Jupiter- AUD 352.89

In terms of the Mercury package, you get 2 GB of memory, 60 GB of SSD storage, and 4 core CPUs. You also get access to 1 TB of transfers. Meanwhile, the Jupiter package contains 12 core CPUs, 32 GB of memory, 1 TB of SSD storage, and an 8 TB transfer.

Whichever package you choose, it comes with some essential features. They stay constant for each subscription. They include things like:

  • 2 IP Addresses
  • 9% Uptime guarantee
  • Private Nameservers
  • Root Level Access

From all the options on our list, Hostinger is the cheapest. There are 6 different subscriptions for VPS hosting. The cheapest one is AUD 5.63 a month and comes with 1 VCPU, 1 GB memory, 20 GB storage, and 1000 GB of bandwidth. The most premium plan comes with 8 CPUs, 8 GB memory, 160 GB storage, and 8000 gigs of bandwidth.

Whichever plan you choose, some features stay the same. This includes a dedicated IP with IPv4 and IPv6 protection. You also get frequent back-ups and the ability to restore them.

Not only is it the most affordable option on our list, but it’s one of our favourites. If you want to build a site and not just host it, Hostinger is for you. Its Zyro function makes it a breeze to build sites. Your blog would have a free SSL certificate and unlimited bandwidth.

Liquid Web

The platform promises 100% uptime of sites. The closer to hundred, the better. We think Liquid has pretty snappy web-pages.

Of course, it offers hosting services in addition to virtual private servers. But when it comes to virtual private servers, there are 4 VPS hosting plans– here are their prices:

  • AUD 83.2 a month
  • AUD 139.7 a month
  • AUD 196.2 a month
  • AUD 266.79 a month

Liquid Web is not the cheapest option. That being said, its customer support is known to be the best – we found them to be informative and friendly. We also found that the resources on its site were the most extensive.

You’re probably wondering what its packages entail. Well, the cheapest one comes with 2 virtual CPUs, 40 GB of SSD storage, 10 TB of bandwidth, and a bunch of essential services. Did we mention that you also get 2 GB of RAM?

The most expensive plan has 8 virtual computers, 10 TB bandwidth, and 200 GB of SSD storage. Each subscription is Linux based and contains a cPanel. Each gets 100 GB free back-ups too.

Like any good hosting service, you can have a bunch of add-ons. They can add up to a lot, so be careful.

A2 Hosting

From all the web hosts on our list, A2 is known to be the best for businesses. It’s especially good for smaller businesses. It offers 3 types of VPS hosting services. You’ll have to choose between its unmanaged, managed, and core variants.

Unmanaged hosting is where you handle things yourself. It’s recommended for people who’ve worked on sites before. A2 takes care of everything in the managed plan. The former starts at AUD 7.06 a month. The managed option starts at AUD 35.29, while the core VPS option has subscriptions starting at AUD 35.29. Remember that they each have differently priced plans.

The highest managed VPS package is AUD 70.58. It comes with 8 gigs of RAM, 4 TB of transfer, 8 CPU cores, 150 GB of storage, and many essential features. This includes a free SSL certificate, site transfer, and cPanel control.

The highest tier for unmanaged VPS hosting is AUD 21.17. You’re getting 50 GB of storage, 4 CPU cores, 2 TB transfer as well as 1 GB of RAM. Once again, there are essential features offered in other plans. This includes an SSL certificate

Although it’s not on the top of our list, BlueHost is still one of our favourite hosts. It is known to be reliable. This is a feature some names in the game don’t come with. If you’re planning on utilizing its VPS hosting services, there are 3 packages to choose from:

  • Standard – AUD 28.22
  • Enhanced – AUD 42.33
  • Ultimate – AUD 84.68

When it comes to the standard package, there are 2 core CPUs, 2 GB of RAM, 30 GB of SSD storage, 1 TB bandwidth, and an IP Address available. Meanwhile, the Ultimate plan comes with 4 core CPUs, 120 GB of SSD storage, 8 GB of RAM, 3 TB of bandwidth, and 2 IPs.

In terms of all three, you’ll be getting a free domain for your first year. If you’re not happy with the features, you can purchase additional ones. Like any good hosting service, free backups are available.

Tips for Choosing A VPS Hosting Service

The options we reviewed are the best. However, there are a couple of things you should consider when choosing a virtual private server provider. This will help you get the most bang for your buck.

Customer support – the web-service should offer friendly customer support. They should be easy to contact, possibly through live-chat. Much of the entries on our list offer this.

Instead of speaking to a representative, heading to an information center is easier. Make sure the host you’re interested in has one.

Security – if your site isn’t backed up, you could lose your content. This shouldn’t be an issue as almost all web hosts back up pages. You should make note of how often the company you’re interested in does this, though. Also, check how secure its SSL and DDoS protections are. Hosting services like WPX offer Incapsula, which is one of the strongest DDoS mitigators around.

Performance – the better the bandwidth and CPU power, the faster your web pages would load. Your site needs to have a great uptime too. With uptime, you want to be as close to 100% as possible.

Final Thoughts

If you have a website, you need to decide what kind of hosting you’ll be utilizing. You can choose between shared, VPS, and dedicated. If you go for shared, you’ll get a slow site. Dedicated is the fastest, while VPS is the middle ground. It’s personally our favorite as it works like a dedicated host.

When hunting for a web host that provides virtual private servers, you need to keep a few things in mind. Our list ran through five services. HostPapa is known as one of the best hosting services in the world, and not just for VPS hosting. It comes with a range of benefits and competitive prices. The other options came neck-in-neck with each other. Some of them are great for certain options. A2 is the best for small businesses while Liquid Web is the best for customer support. Whichever one you choose; you’ll be making the right choice.

So, what did you think about our review? As an Aussie web owner, you’re in good hands now.
